I am a Consultant at Addenbrookes Hospital Cambridge.
I have been working here for nearly the last 5 years.
I have been an anaesthetist for over 27 years, which includes nearly 4 years as a trainee in Anaesthetics in India, 2 years as a trainee in OBG and 9 years as a trainee in Anaesthetics in UK.
Over all these years I have noticed that medicine has changed a lot.
The change has come in the advancement of facilities both in India and UK.
There is a change in the way medical traning happens and the attitudes of doctors.
The transformation has been enormous and health care has improved remarkably.
I have been a Consultant twice and a trainee thrice. Once in OBG and Twice in Anaesthetics. I have been a trainee in anaesthetics once in India and once in UK and a trainee in OBG once in India.
I see people change remarakably during their transition from being a trainee to be a consultant. All the spontaneous laughter and the excitement and friendliness and other attributes that are natural in a trainee suddenly disappear on becoming a consultant. A willing pleasure and pain sharing trainee suddenly transforms into a dominating, hurtful, selfish Consultant, whose main aim is to acquire wealth and position.
